Available Models
DX and EX are the two available trims for the 2003 Honda
Element. Both are available as 2- or 4- wheel drive.
Interior Features
Very smart two-tone colour schemes reside inside the 2003
Honda Element, along with totally cool rubber-like textured
utility floor covering. Some of the other standard features
you will find inside the Element are waterproof seat fabric,
silver-rimmed gauges, tilt wheel, stowable split folding
or flip-up rear seat, power windows and door locks, and
tachometer. You really have to see the driver cluster/console
to grasp its next-generation feel with the shift knob situated
conveniently at a 45-degree angle just below the climate
control system.
On the EX, you will also find air conditioning with air
filtration system, cruise control, power mirrors, and a
270-watt AM/FM/CD stereo system with sub-woofer and an auxiliary
jack for MP3/digital media.
Exterior Features
On the very funky exterior of the 2003 Honda Element, expect
to see rear privacy glass on the DX, and the addition of
alloy wheels to the EX. On both models, side-cargo doors
provide extra-wide entry for whatever you care to throw
in on your adventures. As well, a clam-shell tailgate opens
up for convenient rear loading. With the 4-wheel drive option,
a rear manual sunroof has also been thrown in.
Performance
Under the hood of both Element trims, DX and EX, you can
find a 2.4-litre DOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine, with 160
horsepower @ 5500 rpm and 161 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm.
Both models are available as 2- or 4-wheel drive. You can
choose 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic with grade logic
control on the 2-wheel drive models, while the automatic
transmission comes standard on the 4-wheel drives. You can
expect fuel mileage somewhere around 20/23 (city/hwy) mpg
on either transmission.
Safety and Security
Standard safety measures taken for the 2003 Honda Element
include dual-stage front airbags, side-impact door beams,
and 4-wheel disc brakes. Also standard is Immobilizer theft-deterrent
system that prevents the Element from being started up if
an unauthorized key is used. On the EX, standard ABS brakes
are added. Side airbags are optional on the EX.
